Sherif Ahmed Mohamed Helal “Systematic Review of Egyptian Psychiatric Studies on Child Psychiatric Disorders.
“Child psychiatric disorders constitute a major public health problem. So, it is important to review the Egyptian studies done on this topic and to critically appraise their findings.
In order to achieve this goal the following databases were explored; 1-Library of faculty of medicine-Ain Shams University.2-Library of faculty of medicine- Cairo University. 3- Library of faculty of medicine-El Azhar University. 4-Library of faculty of medicine (Suez Canal University). 5- Egyptian Journal of psychiatry and current psychiatry Journal. After exploring these databases, a list of 59 Egyptian psychiatric researches on child psychiatric disorders is generated (nineteen MD & MSc thesis from Ain Shams University, eight MD & MSc thesis from Cairo University, six MD & MSc thesis from El Azhar University, two MD & MSc thesis from Suez Canal University, twelve studies from the Egyptian Journal of psychiatry, twelve studies from the current psychiatry).
Several difficulties are found while conducting the study, regarding material collection. 1- All Cairo University MD & MSc thesis before 1990 are neither available nor indexed in the library of faculty of medicine- Cairo University. 2- The researches in the library of faculty of medicine- El Azhar University are not indexed properly.
3- There are only four child psychiatric studies in Suez Canal University and we can gain access to two of them only.
Regarding the preliminary material processing, we are faced with the following difficulty: In Faculty of medicine-El Azhar University and most of the MD & MSc theses were written in Arabic.
After reviewing these studies, they are categorized in the following : I- Epidemiology, II- Etiology, III- Clinical description, IV- Management, V- Outcome. All researches which are used in the review are critically appraised.”
