“DESIGNING ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS FOR STUDYING CHILDHOOD PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS WITH REFRENCE TO ATTENTION-DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY AND PERVASIVE DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS
“Aim of study: To develop competent EMRs for psychiatric outpatient clinic suitable for pediatric age group and to implement them on 2 important childhood disorders: PDD and ADHD
Study Design: It is a pilot retrospective study to design EMRs for all psychiatric disorders first diagnosed in infancy, childhood, or adolescence.
Methodology: This study constitutes 90 files equally divided between PDD and ADHD from 3 sites in Ain Shams University: Postgraduate Childhood Studies Institute, Center of Special Needs, and Psychiatric Outpatient Clinics. The study took place in 4 stages .Preparation of standard sheet, designing EMR, then implantation of psychiatric EMR on PDD and ADHD and re-evaluation of new system and descriptive analysis of this system.
Results: Mean age of ADHD was 6.9 years old .In PDD mean age was 6.2 years old. In PDD the male percent was 77.8%, female percent was 22.2%. Male to Female ratio is 3.5:1. In ADHD the male percent was 84.4%, female percent was 15.6%. Male to Female ratio is 5.4:1. The subtypes of ADHD were, Type 1 highest percent 55.4%.Type 3 was 31.2 %. Type 2 was the least frequency 13.4%.
Conclusion: EMR are valuable and applicable tools for pediatric use in psychiatric outpatient clinics. ADHD and PDD are two examples of this successful application. EMRs are competent and efficient for use in pediatric and psychiatric disorders.
